Universities in Germany expect you to research and investigate a lot. Almost every university has mandatory thesis and seminar(s).
I have never read any research paper ever until my Masters. It took some time for me to understand the style and scientific level writing of the research papers. In the starting it was complicated to understand even the abstract but now I have reached a comfort level reading research papers. Not all though. Few are way too complicated to understand mainly in the field of Algorithms. Reading is just half part, the interesting task is to summarize/ explain/ write/ present the paper in an understandable way. In this blog I will enumerate few generic points related to the research papers which may/ may not help you in exploring and presenting different research papers mainly during thesis work.
- Research is basically some interesting findings/ survey/ approaches clubbed with evaluations/ examples i.e lot of work by one to many people. But the information is squeezed in 7-10 pages with scientific level of writing.
- Few papers are pretty simple to understand (mainly surveys), few others are difficult to perceive.
- I have met many of my contemporaries, who hate reading research work. And it’s understandable
- Once you start reading a paper, it may be intricate (not true with all the papers). But my advice would be just continue. You will only reach the comfort level and understanding once you complete the introduction.
